There she was. I hit the kill switch and shut off the petcock for the last time. Riding her over to the new owner's place gave me time to enjoy her quirks and remember all the hours I put into her. It was fun (mostly) while it lasted, but that season is over.

How did you say goodbye to your first bike?

hehe. pod filters. bet you had fun trying to get tht running right.

as for me. I sold my first bike to a friend. I keep tabs on it, the nitwit couldnt get insurance for it and the bike has been sitting for 3 years now. AND he broke the starter. *sigh* At least it was storage in an underground parking garage

I bought a Ninja 250 from a friend as my first bike. It was in rough shape, and I've ended up pouring way more money into it then I could ever get out if I sold it. It costs me $15/month to insure it, so I'm planning on keeping it forever.

It's nice to keep them if you have the space. Registration costs low too? And I assume you can teach friends on it.

I have an apartment, but luckily my parents have a little space in their garage haha. Yeah, registration is pretty cheap in Ohio. I think like $100 every 2 years.

I'm kind of funny about letting my friends ride it, even those with some decent experience. I don't have comprehensive coverage on it yet, though it's just been painted, so I think it might be time to get it.

If someone's going to break my toy, it'd may as well be me! haha

Sold my 2nd, (first was a conversion I did for performance). (It still lives in Illinois), to a collector in Oregon. 3rd, 4th, and on are all a blur.

If it is worth so little that you can't come close to getting your money back out of it, there probably isn't a good reason to pay the comprehensive (unless you plan to go out and scratch a few panels, turn it in, total the bike, settle for a percentage of the value, and then get a salvage title issued so that you can fix it up and keep riding it.... wait, this has possibilities.)... nevermind... carry on.

I wasn't the one who was all broken up when I sold my first bike. It was my wife who had separation problems. Our first date were on it and so it was sentimental to her (though she wouldn't ride on it after we purchased a car.)

We lived in a small town and I could hear it when ever the new owner took it out for a spin. (It was a GS500 that was completely stock, but it was one of the only un-modified exhausts in the town so it sounded distinctive, it was weird.) Hearing it made me nostalgic for it.

I feel both your pain and joy: been there, done that.

Mine was a bit different in that I too rode the bike over to the new owners place but along the way stopped for gas and had this beautiful woman flirt with me just because I was a biker. Man I miss those days:( No bike no date.

It's nice now! I've just had to put in way more than it's worth to make it nice again.

Progressive bike insurance will pay you 100% of the cost of accessories & upgrades i your bike gets totaled. All you need to do is list them and have docs for what you paid. No depreciation like other companies.

I audit their claims for other insurance companies and they are the only one that pays out that way, so it may be something to look into for a bike with a low book value but a lot of upgrades & accessories.
